Client

Miris is a Swedish-based organisation that envisions a future where every child is born with the same access to healthcare, ensuring the best possible start in life. Their mission is to make individual nutrition, based on human milk, available globally to improve neonatal health.

Challange

Enhance neonatal personnel's workflow by implementing a streamlined user flow that simplifies the comprehension of necessary additives for tailoring breastmilk to meet the nutritional requirements of patients.

Since the project is about to be released, I am unable to showcase the final product.
However, I am highly interested in discussing the topic with you.

Be aware of cognitive load

Patient’s progress in focus

Workflow for personalised patient care

When I met the neonatal personnel I identified that the amount of systems used resulted in a lack of work structure. Therefore, I put a lot of effort into the flowchart to minimise the cognitive load.Having studied cognitive load extensively, I methodically designed a workflow that guides the user to their tasks.

With premature babies in their hands, neonatal personnel put maximal effort and heart into each baby's development. One way to assist them was to offer them an effortless way of tracking the patients’ development over time. One baby at a time, or all at once, that’s up to the personnel.

With thorough UX research at hand, I recognized the specific challenges neonatal personnel encounter when providing patient-tailored nutrition. To address these issues, we designed a nutrition calculator. This tool simplifies the process by clearly identifying nutrient deficiencies. The result streamlines their workflow, allowing more efficient and personalised patient care.

Methods optimised for
the case's assets

With a mix of national and international users, I placed great importance on understanding the context, needs, and attitudes of these users, as their requirements can vary significantly.

Teamwork with a clear plan

I was happy to conduct the role as UX lead of this project, including the total workflow, from customer introduction to product delivery.
One aspect I highly value in every project is including both the customer and the users throughout the project. No exceptions were made in this project. With frequent contact with the stakeholders, we were able to identify what works and what doesn't, both regarding the flowchart and the product's features.

Capturing the
brand essence in the
design system

With wireframes at hand, it was time to harmonise Miris' brand style guide with the new design system. My focus was on aligning the UI elements seamlessly. A paramount aspect of my approach was a continuous collaboration with the client and developers through which we honed the design system, refining the UI elements and features for optimal functionality and aesthetic coherence.

My key takeaways

  • The value of involving stakeholders from day one

  • The importance of including users from different nationalities to understand different needs

  • The importance of Weekly Standup Meetings to align ideas and be transparent regarding the progress
